PHILANTROPIST NICHOLAS CINQUE ON GUILD HALL AND HIS PASSION FOR GIVING BACK TO HIS EAST HAMPTON COMMUNITY

East Hampton’s Guild Hall has a friend in gallerist and philanthropist Nicholas Cinque.
Young philanthropist Nicholas Cinque began giving back to his East Hampton community as a teenager, thanks to an institution that had a strong influence on him: Ross School. “The Ross School definitely put a huge emphasis on community service, both on a local and global front,” says Cinque, today the director of Sotheby’s S|2 Gallery. The Amagansett native says the school instills the importance of working for a greater cause, “whether that is working with the South Fork Natural History Museum counting frogs or doing a project when I was in law school teaching photography in Africa.”
These days Cinque, 27, lends his expertise to various philanthropic causes and has a special passion for East Hampton’s Guild Hall. Cinque believes the venue, which hosts multiple art forms from music to theater to the visual arts, is unique. “I haven’t found a museum as diverse in their programming. On the same walls that de Koonings are hung in parts of the year, they also hang student art from local schools,” he says. Guild Hall will exhibit works by Taryn Simon and Richard Avedon this summer. The show, “Avedon’s America,” is set to open August 11 at the annual summer gala, which Cinque also supports
“You could have an exhibition of Roy Lichtenstein, a Louis C.K. stand-up performance, and an Arthur Miller play on view,” he says of the arts center’s lineup. “You can always find something you click with at Guild Hall.”
