A couple of weeks ago, K’La Methven, TV producer and lingerie designer, found herself in an unforgettable predicament at the Trump International Hotel & Tower on Columbus Circle. At 6 a.m., she was jolted awake by firefighters pounding on her third-floor room door while she slept in nothing but lingerie.

K’La, whose South African grandfather built a fortune supplying chickens to KFC, recounted the chaotic scene. “I was rushed down to the lobby with everyone else, standing there in a tiny thong and bra. It was mortifying! All the dads were staring,” she shared with a laugh. Thankfully, someone handed her a blanket to cover up.

As she waited in the lobby, K’La couldn’t help but notice the “hot” FDNY firefighters tackling a blaze on the 16th floor. “Those firemen were something else,” she chuckled. “I could’ve had a good time!”

Once the fire was extinguished, K’La and the other guests, who had been relocated to Central Park, were allowed back into the hotel. She quickly pulled herself together for a meeting with Disney executives, proving her ability to pivot from chaos to business with ease.

K’La, the creative force behind the TV show K’La After Dark, where she interviews celebrities, is no stranger to the spotlight. She also runs her own lingerie line, Madame Methven, which reflects her bold and unapologetic style. Her wild morning at the Trump International Hotel is just another story in the colorful life of this multifaceted entrepreneur.
